Live streaming your event is a relatively new idea. And like any new idea, it has quite a few misconceptions surrounding it. Let us quickly talk about the five most popular ones.
- Live streaming is expensive. Yes, it used to be. But not anymore. Camera crews with bulky betacams, minivans with parabolic dishes – are all things of the past. Live streaming technology has made leaps and bounds in recent years. A typical 2-hour wedding package can cost you anywhere between CAD $400-$700.
- Live streaming requires a big crew. No, not really. With available tech, a live stream can be easily by a single person. He or she may need some help with setup and cleanup but that should not affect the event.
- Live streaming equipment is bulky and will interfere with the flow of the event. Again, not anymore. High-resolution HD cameras can fit on the palm of your hand. They can be inconspicuously placed around the venue. Most people don’t even realize that it is part of the streaming setup. These cameras are connected wirelessly so no more messy cables on the floor.
- Connecting to a live stream requires advanced technical expertise and not everyone will be able to enjoy it. Tuning into a live stream is as easy as visiting your favourite social media site. Live stream can be enjoyed on mobile phones, desktop computers or even big-screen TV.
- I will need a venue with high-speed internet and if my event is in a remote or rural area I am out of luck. While it is true that live streaming requires a stable high-speed internet connection it is also true that the advent of new broadband cellular standards has made it possible to live stream pretty much everywhere. Canadian mobile operators are actively expanding their 5G networks which will make high-quality live streaming even more accessible.
